Thanks for sharing.

I never had the opportunity to meet The Professor, but if you have read my other posts, you know I'm a fan of Bernie Stone. Also a great example of a band experimenting with new and different styles. It's long been my favorite Rush LP and holds a dear place in my heart. I had the pleasure of meeting Neil through an old acquaintance of mine back in the spring of 2011. On the drive to where we met him I thought of what I wanted to say or ask him. Upon initial meeting he was his usual polite self. I mentioned to him that Signals was my favorite album the band ever put out, pointing in particular to "Digital Man" as an example of what truly inspired my own playing as a then 13 year old to which he replied {and I still remember the brief pause he took for a second before replying}, he said "well thank you for that nice compliment" and that it was a unique time for the band then with the musical direction that they were going in and that he felt that it was kind of a milestone for them from that period on. Just one of those moments in life that you never thought you'd have; I got to shake hands with The Professor. He was -and remains- my favorite drummer in all of popular music. Any type of stress on a shell, such as overtightened lug bolts, can choke the tone of the shell. Quality drums use some type of grommet that prevent lug bolts from loosening even at minimum tension. I've had drummers comment how hardware seems loose on DW and PDP drums. This is done on purpose to keep tension off of the shell.

I've experienced the same thing with solid tom mounts choking the tone of drums. Suspension mounts avoid the issue of overtightened solid tom mounts from choking the tone.Darin Sollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13936025504236068676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107634654312846113.post-31420457007226439622023-06-25T00:23:39.394-04:002023-06-25T00:23:39.394-04:00I've personally done quite a few shells testin...I've personally done quite a few shells testing out a variety of filaments for resonance. I've also done the lugs conventionally mounted but they are 3d printed. I found that the lugs themselves do not impact the tone as much as one would think. I got my snare 2nd hand from a friend. The wrap was a dark gray glass glitter that was starting to separate (the outer clear layer) in places. So I decided to carefully remove the wrap with a heat gun and putty knife, and remove all of the glue residue using Goof Off. Under neat the wrap was a very nice looking maple shell which I decide to lay down 10 coats of Wipe on Poly, lightly sanding between coats. It came out really nice.
