I'm in contact with PDP and I know it's a long shot (since this snare was made in Encinada Mexico back in 2008), but maybe they might have some new old stock gaskets in their warehouse somewhere. But right now they are shut down because of Covid 19.......Bob N.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02489737445423147608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107634654312846113.post-71390932702346106152020-05-05T17:07:02.493-04:002020-05-05T17:07:02.493-04:00Hey Bob, I think it would be extremely difficult t...Hey Bob, I think it would be extremely difficult to acquire the exact gaskets today. I see two options: (1) try to find an inexpensive used Platinum drum and scavenge the gaskets, or (2) find something close and trim to fit. Drum Factory Direct is a helpful resource: https://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_9_295 Darin Sollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13936025504236068676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107634654312846113.post-16378403463744506472020-05-05T16:47:45.786-04:002020-05-05T16:47:45.786-04:00BTW my snare didn't come with lug gaskets and ...BTW my snare didn't come with lug gaskets and I would like to get some. In the old days (Slingerland, Ludwig, etc.), shells that didn't look so good were marked for wraps. My guess is that modern production methods like those in PDP's factory result in more consistent shells across the board.Darin Sollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13936025504236068676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107634654312846113.post-73306147688304339942020-05-02T19:11:09.542-04:002020-05-02T19:11:09.542-04:00Thanks for this article, it was nice to get some i...Thanks for this article, it was nice to get some information on this single ply PDP snare drum. I got my snare 2nd hand from a friend. The wrap was a dark gray glass glitter that was starting to separate (the outer clear layer) in places. So I decided to carefully remove the wrap with a heat gun and putty knife, and remove all of the glue residue using Goof Off. Under neat the wrap was a very nice looking maple shell which I decide to lay down 10 coats of Wipe on Poly, lightly sanding between coats. It came out really nice. I don't know how to post picture here, but I will if I can figure out how to.....Bob N.Bob N.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02489737445423147608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107634654312846113.post-56950808237297906052014-04-06T20:42:42.042-04:002014-04-06T20:42:42.042-04:00UPDATE: I recently upgraded the hoops on this sna...UPDATE: I recently upgraded the hoops on this snare drum to 3.0mm DW True-Hoops. The True-Hoops add as much crack to rimshots as die-cast hoops, while saving your sticks with a rolled top flange. They dry out the sound slightly--my guess is that the sound is somewhere between 2.3mm triple-flange and die-cast hoops.

With this $60 upgrade, I believe the PDP Platinum solid maple snare is could go up against any DW maple snare!

--DrumNutDarin Sollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13936025504236068676noreply@blogger.com
